Anantara Jabal Akhdar Resort

Architecture | 05 Apr 2017

Jabal Akhdar – The Green Mountain – was the chosen place to a luxury resort, in Oman. Two thousand metres above the sea level, in a canyon’s rim, Anantara Jabal Akhdar Resort was designed by Atelier Pod, who considered the country’s architectural and interiors tradition, using vernacular elements to express the “local heritage”.
Through light and shadows, texture and the sound of rustling vegetation and flowing water the space’s sense of beauty and drama was emphasized. The courtyard, with an open fireplace in the centre, is “the heart of the resort”. It is in the courtyard that a souk, a coffee shop and a library come together, as well as the paths that give access to the main restaurant facilities. A tower on the western side is an homage to the ancient Burj. It is distinctive due to its conical curvature and encircling ramp and there is possible to find a lounge and a restaurant, being also an observational tower.
The interiors design has as objective the reinvention of timelessness based on the surrounding culture, in a minimalist style, but with warm and rich colours and local artwork. Atelier Pod also created a furniture line adapted to this luxury resort, inspired in “contemporary interpretations of traditional Omani design”.
