ROOMS IN BLACK, WHITE AND GREY
City Inn is a hotel in Kuanzhai Alley, Chengdu, China, and its owner wanted to make a renewal with a limited budget. With this in mind, designer Chu Chih-Kang defined a concept in which the hotel is also a gallery of modern art, about Kuanzhai Alley’s history.
The history is told through photographs and products of the “good old times” placed on the lobby as art works. The hotel’s atmosphere swigs between Kuanzhai Alley’s past and present.
One of the hotel’s peculiarities is the rooms’ colour. The hues vary between white, black and grey, including the pictures that hang on the walls, and the furniture’s style is retro.
On the other hand, the restaurant’s decoration uses bamboo, the characteristic plant of the region in which the hotel is located. The bamboo was also used on the exterior to hide the view of the parking lot.
