THE ANCIENT CHINA WITH THE 21ST CENTURY’S LUXURY
Wuyuan is known as China`s most beautiful countryside area and is home to some of the country`s best-preserved architectural masterpieces. Without neglecting the landscape, more than the renovation of a three-hundred-year-old property, anySCALE’s project had as main goal its conservation. We are talking about the new Wuyuan Skywells Hotel, whose construction respected the local architecture’s history, so not only the artifacts were preserved, but also the old mansion´s grandeur and elegance, that had been neglected throughout the 20th century.
The modern interventions were smooth and subtle. The brick and clay walls were restored and rebuilt according to the local tradition. The more private spaces, like the suites, are now more comfortable and contemporary. The internal structure in wood – a unique aspect of the property - was maintained while being restored by a local artisan contracted by anySCALE. Therefore, the cultural aspects of the property were improved and updated in order to create a new era in the building’s history.
