CITIES IN PAPER
“Cities and Memory – the Architecture and the City” is a project by Marta Vilarinho de Freitas, an architect. It was the passion for architectural drawing that motivated the development of illustrations that are part of the project.
Drawing is with Marta since childhood and “the theme of the City, repeatedly present in her illustrations, is strongly related with history, buildings, façades, streets and people”.
Knowing the “spirit of the place – the ‘genius loci’ of the city”, is a will that exudes from her drawings. Marta Vilarinho de Freitas uses pen on paper, with a “very thin stroke”, which allow her to capture “the tinniest details”. The vision is personal and, on her works, Porto – the city where she studied -, was highlighted, although she represented not only “real” cities, but also “imaginary” ones.
