THE BEAUTIFUL HANDWRITING OF HUGO MOURA
On the agreed time and date we accepted to meet Xesta Studio`s headquarters. At first glance, the place says a lot about the essence of the office, the intrinsic nature of Hugo Moura, the man behind Xesta Studio. At Rua Cândido dos Reis number 139, in the Historic Centre of Vila Nova de Gaia, is a place designed for sharing and cooperation. Under the same ceiling prosper a hand overflowing with other collaborative workoffices. We can feel the smell, and so we realize that we are in a true creative place. The outside world urges for each idea that takes shape on the sheet of paper or the pixels on the screen.
But let`s return to Hugo. It is he who shows us the alphabet of his visual representations. Hugo`s world is built of affinities, humor and a perfectionist edge: "There is something that could always be improved in all my projects. The day I feel entirely pleased with a project there is something that is not right", he says. But what does Hugo do after all? "I`m not a calligrapher," he states, "I`m a designer, and I happen to do calligraphy as well, but I do not like being entitled merely a calligrapher because, had I not studied graphic design (at Escola Superior de Artes e Design in Matosinhos - ESAD) my work would be totally different".
